Past Captains
Dinner
Tuesday the
19th saw Astbury Past Captains hold their annual dinner which was preceded by
the usual 12 hole competition. It was noticeable that fewer ventured onto the
course this year as it was not a good weather forecast for the evening. One
could say it sorted the men from the boys but on this occasion this phrase does
not fit as it is many (many) years since any of those who played were boys!
For the
last few years the competition has been somewhat of a forgone conclusion but
this year the "Tiger" or "OJ" effect did not work and there
is now a new name on the trophy. The winner and obviously benefiting from playing more regularly was Ted (chipper) Darton which was
quite apt as he has taken over the role of Master of Ceremonies for the past couple
of years.
Following
the golf some 18 Past Captains and the current Captain Steve Whalley sat down
to an excellent meal, coupled with good companionship.
