 BEN SAYERS SUPERDEALS

Ben Sayers have supplied us with some superb deals this month. For starters we have their top of the range driver, ‘Benny’ (in reference to golfing legend Ben Sayers, not Benny off crossroads) is their top of the range model and usually retails at the £150 mark. We have them at just £59.99! The shafts are graphalloy pro launch (which retail at £80) and the grips are multi compound (retail at a tenner).

To compliment these we have fairways woods and rescues at £39.99, again representing huge savings. These rescues are well worth a try. I have been suggesting to you that hybrid clubs are a must instead of long irons. Now I can suggest you try these Sayers hybrids. They can improve your long game enormously without leaving a dent in your pocket! Pop in and try one.

Finally, we have some excellent value Ben Sayers carry and trolley bags. They are well made, very lightweight and massively discounted at just £49.99! You will not find better value for money anywhere on the internet. On top of that you know you have a great after sales service on your doorstep.

 YE YANG

Ye Yang is a major champion. He is the only golfer ever to come from behind and win a major championship when Tiger has lead going into the last round. He must be a good golfer!

In the recent US Open YE Yang carried FOUR rescue clubs in his bag. His longest iron was a seven iron! We are talking about one of the world’s top golfers here. Are you one of the world’s top golfers? Then how come you have not got some of these rescue/hybrid clubs in your bag?

Pop in to our shop and spend less than £40 on a top class rescue club. It could save you loads of shots.

 GUESS WHO

I would like you to guess the handicap of the player I am describing from these statistics……………..

Our golfer hits just 6 fairways out of 10 on average. Take a guess on the handicap please.

Excluding par 5s, our golfer hits only 5 greens in regulation out of 10. (in regulation means on the green in one on a par3, two on a par four etc). Have another guess at the player’s handicap.

When in a greenside bunker, our golfer gets ‘up and down’ in two just over 50% of the time. Modify your guess if you need to……….

They are the only clues I am giving you. What is the player’s handicap?  You may be surprised to learn that the golfer I am describing is none other than Rory Mcilroy. His handicap when he turned Professional was plus 6!

What lessons can we learn from this information?

Firstly, get a good short game. If you are good at chipping and putting, you can give anyone a good game.

Secondly, do not expect to hit the fairway every time you tee it up, and likewise with your shot into the green. If you lower your expectations, you may just enjoy yourself more. If you enjoy yourself more, you will be more relaxed and probably end up playing better golf anyway!!

LAST CHANCE FOR THE CHARITY RAFFLE

We need your help to raise a bit of money for the Captains Charity. Our prize draw gives you a chance to win one of eight fabulous paintings of open championship courses. We need to sell a few more squares before we close the draw and pick the winners. Three pounds a go or two for a fiver.

 THE PRE SHOT ROUTINE

How many of you follow a pre defined routine when you hit a shot?  What is your routine and how did you come up with it?

 Consider my thoughts and come up with a pre shot routine that suits you;

 1) You should always ask yourself what you want the ball to do. How high should it go, where should it start its journey, where will it land and how will it roll. This, along with a clear yardage, will help with club selection.

 2) Once you have a clear picture of the shot in your mind – get on with it! The longer you take at this point the less your brain will remember what to do.

 3) Be consistent. The top golfers keep their pre shot routine exactly the same every time. You can usually guarantee their consistency to the second. When Mike Weir held his nerve to win the Masters a few years back, the fastest of his pre shot routines was timed at 29.5 seconds, the slowest at 30.5 seconds. With such regularity his brain simply got into its normal, standard, everyday routine, even though he was leading the tournament. Just because it is an important shot it does not mean you should take longer to hit it.

 4) Do you really need all those practise swings? If you do, then take the same number of swings with each shot. Personally, I do not take any practise swings. They sap my energy levels and make me lose focus on the shot in hand. Bare in mind the fact that I try to simplify everything in my own game if I can.

This leaves me with a simple, easy to repeat, pre shot routine. I Picture the shot, choose my club, line up and hit it. Simples! The only time I allow myself to break this routine is if I am playing an unusual shot, like under a tree or with an awkward bunker shot. In these circumstances I may need practise swings to gauge the swing I need.
