Astbury Lady Captain's Day June 20th

RECORD NUMBER OF LADIES PLAYIN LADY CAPTAIN’S DAYAstbury Golf Club Lady Captain’s Day was held on Sunday 20th June. The glorious weather, combined with a golf course in very good condition, was perfect for the record-breaking 72 ladies who teed up for the event. As a result, some very good scores were produced. The winner of the Lady Captain’s Cup with an excellent score was Karen Watson, with 98-30=68, reducing her handicap by 2 shots. Barbara Arthur with a score of 97-28=69 was in second place, and with a score of 83-13=70, Linda Burrows took third prize, and both were also presented with new handicap certificates! Jean Kerr was awarded 4th prize scoring 88-18=70 and in fifth place, winning on the back 9 from several ladies, was Chris Westrup with 80-9=71. Kelly Morley won the best gross prize with an excellent score of 76. The best net score on the front nine was won by Margaret Jones with 33 net, and the winner of the best back nine prize was Louise Robinson with 32.5 net. The nearest the pin prizes were awarded to Chris Westrup on the 4th hole, and Louise Holt on the eleventh hole. The prize for the least number of putts in the eighteen holes was Alice Hodgkinson with a splendid total of only 29 putts and there were only two ladies who achieved a two, Ann Bethell and Shirley Spratt. In her presentation speech, Mrs Sue Bentley, Lady Captain, took the opportunity to thank all those who had helped to make her day a success, especially her husband, Pete, and family. The weather could not have been better, the course looked magnificent and she had been a little envious that she was not able to play. Following an excellent meal and presentation, the Captain, Pete Bozon, thanked the Lady Captain on behalf of her guests and all the ladies, for a wonderful day and superb meal. He was delighted with the tremendous support the ladies had given the Lady Captain on her very special day. AJS
