Astbury Fish and Chip Supper - August 6th

Fish Chips and Welding, an unlikely combination..

.

Winners Malcolm and Sue with the Captains

It was more mixed activity on Friday 6th with this month's fish and chip supper at Astbury. A 12 hole greensomes event for mixed teams that culminates in a fish and chip supper in the club house. These are very well supported fun competitions with rumoured hand to hand fighting to get a start time. Under the surface of course the competition is fierce and, don't be fooled here, the teams are very keen to win. Nothing speaks better to the popularity than to see several of the male members migrating to this, the dark side,  of club golf and thoroughly enjoying themselves - whatever next? - moisturisers, deodorant, even pink?

After a very wet start threatened the event and under yet another gorgeous grey sky (!) it was clear scoring was going to be tougher than in those burned fairway days of the now lost summer. Nonetheless the prize winners pulled away from the chasing pack with a good score and for a worthy win.

Sue Foden is in charge of the F&C this year and did another fine job putting it all together. Captains Peter Bozon and Sue Bentley were on hand to present prizes in the clubhouse after the event.

The meal after the game is always a source of social insight for the club but even I was taken aback to hear Muriel Fraser telling the table that she was a Church Welder - I'm sure that's what she said..

Results :-

1st - Malcolm Hodgkinson & Sue Stockley

2nd - Steve Kellam & Audrey Whimpanny
